Summer Finally arrived ... then went again!

Wasn't it nice seeing the sun shining last week. It makes such a difference to my mood and energy levels when there are blue skies to wake up to and there is warmth in the air.

I don't hold out much hope for this week alas, but at least we've had a quick dopamine and Vitamin D top up without having to jump on a plane.

Of course many of you 'are' doing just that currently and here's hoping that you all get to enjoy wonderful holidays with your friends and families whether at home in the UK or abroad.

Speaking of holidays - this is how my summer is going to shape up regarding holidays so please grab your calendars to note any class closures which may affect you.......

CLASSES ON

For the majority of you (who book in on Gymcatch) the general rule will be - if it features on Gymcatch the class is ON. If it is not available to book on Gymcatch it's OFF on that date.

There are only 2 weeks where there will be full closure of classes - the 1st two weeks of August. On the other weeks, please do make use of the alternative classes which are running to ensure you get a session should you like to.

The following, current, timetable might help you decide which alternative sessions may suit your needs:

All sessions which are running in July and August are now uploaded onto Gymcatch and ready to book:

As numbers inevitably become lower in classes over the summer months please note that there will be NO priority access given to booking pilates classes over this period. This will return again in preparation for September classes. It is always still advisable however to book your sessions in advance if you want to be guaranteed a place.

Also note that pilates sessions will not follow the usual format of being a themed block over 6 weeks. Each week (where on) we will explore different themes/equipment making sessions more available to everyone. If there is a session type that you are eager to explore please do get in touch.

Alternatives over the summer

Folks - I have a couple of recorded options available to you for the summer months.

For £25 I can give you access to 6 recorded classes of BARRE PILATES which are accessed via ZOOM. This is a standing workout with flavours of both Ballet and Pilates and is fabulous for strengthening leg muscles, improving core, posture, pelvic floor engagement and for aiding balance. All you need is a surface to hold for balance and in some instances a light hand weight.

Or for £30 I can register you as a member of my private Class Fitness Pilates Group on Facebook, giving you 2 months access to over 20 different pilates classes, tutorials and express sessions which were all filmed during COVID times.

Or if you just fancy meeting up with your class mates for a walk or social gathering I'll be happy to collate what's app groups for those classes that don't as yet have one. Please let me know if this would be of interest to you.

To arrange access to the recordings or Pilates Facebook Group please email me at di.harris@classfitness.co.uk up to Monday July 15th and I will send details for payment and how then how to access.

Summer of Love

It seems this summer is the summer of love with many of our clients themselves getting married or close family members tying the knot. Huge Congratulations to all celebrating marriages this year and I'm so pleased to have helped many of you in your preparations for feeling 'fit' and 'fabulous' for the big day.

A special mention must be made here to the amazing Susan Patterson, who attends our pilates classes twice a week and who has recently started our dance fitness class (Fitsteps) on Thursday evenings.

Preparations for Sue's wedding were even more challenging than most, given that she has Ankylosing Spondylitis (AS), an inflammatory condition often causing debilitating back pain and stiffness, with stiffness and pain in other joints and extreme fatigue to name just a few symptoms.

Being the 'warrior' that she is however, she used the wedding preparations to hone in on her condition and ensure she was in the best shape possible, whilst encouraging other sufferers to do the same.

Here she is with some of the Friday 9.15am Intermediate Pilates gang, celebrating just 29 days to Go!

And here she is looking radiant on her BIG DAY in Italy....

It is well documented that exercising is a key contributor in the management of AS and other inflammatory conditions such as Rheumatoid Arthritis. - helping to maintain range movement, muscle strength and promoting best posture. PILATES in particular is an excellent form of exercise as the intensity of exercises can be easily modified and sessions are taught at a slow. thoughtful pace.

Do get in touch if you, like Sue, might like to feel the benefit that Pilates can bring with some of these chronic conditions.

At this time of year it's just worth a quick reminder that 'consistency' is the key to success with health and well -being goals.

If you've worked hard on developing your healthy habits so far this year, try to keep that focus going throughout the summer months.

You may want to let the 'gas off the pedal' a little as you holiday and socialise more ....and of course this is fine! But try to keep as many of your healthy behaviours going at the same time.

Just think how much better you will feel in September if you have 'maintained' your current gains rather than slipped back to where you started.

Later this year......

Thought some of my perimenopausal and menopausal clients might be interested to know that the Guru on all things Menopause, Dr Louise Newson, is here in Chester on Sat 12th October at The Storyhouse. Tickets selling from £28.Anyone eager to attend as a group do let me know and we'll organise some tickets.

And don't shoot me down ..... but Christmas parties are already on my radar! If there are any suggestions to alternatives to The Grosvenor Pulford that you want to put forward please do let us know.
